“From years of observation as an environmental analyst with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, it became apparent to me that open space resources which the Department was commissioned to protect and conserve, were systematically being degraded and, at times, destroyed by the ’sprawl’ pattern of suburban growth and development. Such resources included stream corridors, wildlife habitats, prime agricultural lands, scenic vistas, and unique geologic sites. I also observed this persistant pattern of natural resources degradation and loss across the United States. Consequently, I set as a personal and professional goal upon retirement, the production of videos which institutions and governmental entities, alternatives to the conventional ’sprawl’ pattern of development and associated zoning practices. The positive benefits of conservation subdivision development to storm water management are considered in this video.”
